It’s unusual for a material as revered and precious as glass to draw it’s influences from rock music and horror films, but this is what Ludvig Löfgren does with an energy that is infectious. This collection of animals (there are also rabbits, rats and owls) are uniquely immortalised in the highest quality hand sculpted crystal. Löfgren creates a frisson from the unlikely marriage of his material and subject matter. The conflict between the ‘hands off’ nature of glass and Ludvig’s rock culture references blow away the cobwebs from our expectations of the material.
‘The Candy Collection are so colourful and cute that you practically want to eat them,’ says Löfgren. ‘I want to convey the feeling that they seem both sugary sweet and slightly scary at the same time. A nice fairytale that can just as easily go off the rails and turn into a pure horror story.’ |
