Bodil Soderlund

Sweden, b 1981

Soderlund is an intriguing young artist just recently graduated from the London Metropolitan University. By the very nature of production, each of her sculptures is absolutely unique. She transforms an old forgotten teddy by sacrificing it to the flames of the kiln into a beautiful new object of desire.

In her own words: ‘ What happens to personal objects as time goes by? Things we wear out, get bored of, out grow or simply move away from. Take the teddy bear for example. As children it serves us loyally and intimately with comfort and care. Then, as we grow older, the teddy moves out of our arms and beds into boxes, attics and parents’ basements. It turns from being an active fabric of love into a passive carrier of sentimental values and memories of past times.’

Bodil is also offering a service of transforming your own teddy into a porcelain object of desire, contact us for further details about commissioning.
