‘The experience of being at Murano can only be likened possibly
to the experience of the composer hearing their music being interpreted
for the first time. To have the opportunity to break out from our
usual approach to design with all its constraints when involved
with mass production and to be able to focus on the hands skills
of craftsmen and the material itself was truly liberating. Working
with the Master craftsman at Salviati was the most exciting collaboration
imaginable.
'Muso' is the term used in connection with the Buddhist idea of
unchanging formlessness behind all phenomena. There are two types
of pieces in our collection. The ones that use Zanfirico are called
Sviluppo and the others using Filigrana are called Ripple.
We took a long and hard look at the traditional Murano techniques
of Zanfirico and optic blown Filigrana, and used these to express
the fluidity, weight and volume of our asymmetrical forms, working
away from applied decoration to an integrated solution between
tradition, craft, material and modernity. |
