After graduating from the RCA in 1983, Lovegrove
has seemingly worked with everyone in the design industry, from
Apple and Sony, to Driade, Cappellini, and Louis Vuitton.
His visually seductive and technologically persuasive designs are
inspired by the natural world and informed by his broad understanding
of ergonomics, and state-of-the-art materials. Lovegrove curated
the first permanent collection at the Design Museum, London and has
had solo exhibitions of his work in MOMA New York.
Lovegrove's dematerialist, holistically derived and forward-looking
products embody
a new organic sensibility and have set the stage for design in
this century.
‘The session in Murano was extraordinary. I was very taken
emotionally by the way each artisan cared for each other, working
as one....it’s something very rare and particular to glass
making and the demands I put on them were accepted with great enthusiasm.
The one piece at 4 meters was the largest piece they had blown
and probably the largest ever in Murano - its transition of state
from liquid vertical to rigid horizontal was pure magic . I’ve
greatly enjoyed participating in this special event ....it’s
what makes designing so worthwhile for me.’ |
