Ross Lovegrove CV

‘The role of the designer should be to define the culture of our times and stimulate a new view of the future. My work has become liberated through a growing interest in making things, individual process, materials and the joys of organic form. The same soul is there, but this new freedom to work across boundaries and be respected as someone with a unique vision has given me confidence to say and do what I really believe in for companies around the world.

These are my guiding tenets: respect for materials; elevating the status of everyday objects; achieving the most from the least; pushing the properties of materials; creating a sense of sculptural beauty in industrial products. Ergonomic comfort. Fluid, holistic design. Love of plastic. Joy of living. Passion for uniqueness.’

Since setting up his own studio, Lovegrove has always worked with international clients, developing a style inspired by organic design, combined with thorough knowledge of ergonomics and of the most recent technological and production innovations. Lovegrove is also deeply interested in Anglo-Saxon craftsmanship, admiring its tradition connected with fine materials and a skillful synthesis of form and function. All these elements coexist in his work, making him one of the most interesting designers on the international scene.

Winner of numerous international awards his work has been extensively published and exhibited internationally including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Guggenheim Museum NY, Axis Centre Japan, Pompidou Centre, Paris and the Design Museum, London, when in 1993 he curated the first Permanent Collection.
